Capacity is the measure of how much your life can contain. All you have in life is not all there is to God, but all you have allowed. When water is poured into a glass, the amount of water poured into the glass is dependent on the size of the glass. This is the same when God wants to bless us. We have a responsibility to expand our capacity so that God can pass wealth and success to and through us.
We looked at four areas of capacity development – Vision, Skill, Social and Pain.
The first is our vision capacity. This is a measure of how far you can see. God told Abraham to look and wherever his eyes sees, He will give to him in Genesis 13:14-15. We also learnt that vision capacity goes beyond the physical eye, but rather depends on what our spirit can see. When Elisha’s servant was afraid of the soldiers that were coming to attack them in 2 Kings 6:17, Elisha prayed that God will open his servants eyes and as soon as it happened, the servant saw that they were surrounded by a chariot of fire.
One of the ways to increase your vision capacity is through exposure. Reveal yourself to the things you want to attain or become in life, to motivate yourself. Another way to expand on your vision is through association. Surround yourself with the people that are where you want to be, or are putting the effort to get there. Similar interests keeps you going and makes your vision attainable.
We also looked at Skill capacity. This is the measure of your ability to solve people’s problems and get paid for it. We have the responsibility to audit our skills and improve on them to make us valuable. In the parable of the talent, we see how the servants who worked on their talent and got more talent, ended up with cities. Whilst the other one that refused to harness his skills and buried it, was thrown away to where there is “gnashing of teeth”. The essence of this capacity is to ensure that you are irreplaceable in that area of expertise. You can build on your skills through trainings and apprenticeships. Examples of skills are: Communication, Sales and Marketing
Social capacity is the measure of your ability to build quality relationships. Every resources you ever need to thrive is on earth, but in the hands of men. God depends on men to raise other men, hence the importance of developing relationships. If you are blessed to become wealthy, you must take the step of faith in building quality relationships with those who are also wealthy and believe in your idea.
We learnt that God is the source, and men are the channels. Therefore, if you only develop a relationship with God, and not men, you won’t be able to progress as much as you should in life. Establish quality relationships with people that will give up their resources to help you in difficult situations. They should be those who share a similar interest or goal with you.
Finally, we have the Pain capacity. This is the measure of your capacity to endure loss in the pursuit of greatness. Nothing good comes easy and greatness does not emerge without pain. If we take a look at Ronaldo, Messi, Lebron James and other top athletes, and hear their story, we admire the pain and trials they went through to become who they are. This applies to every wealthy and known person in the world. Success requires you to pay the price for it.
We learnt that the opposite of pain is entitlement, not comfort. It is when we feel entitled that we are not willing to subject ourselves to the pain of life and be shaped into the person God has destined us to be. Different types of pain are: Pain of correction, Pain of separation, Pain of Gods silence etc.
